Weaving the Future: MultakaOxford's Culture Club x Fusion Arts

This project is part of Cultural X Collabs, an international collaboration coordinated by the Museum for Islamic Art in Berlin.

Multaka Oxford and Fusion Arts have collaborated to contribute towards the Museum for Islamic Arts Project: Cultural x Collabs Weaving the Future. While the museum (based in Berlin) is closed for renovation, 100 fragments of the doppelgänger 17th century carpet from the Caucasus region have been cut and delivered to people all over the world, inspiring them to share their ideas and stories. With the return of the fragments for the reopening of the museum in 2027, the narratives of the 100 fragments will reunited unto a shared story. The people involved will come together, exchange ideas and share their experiences.

For Fusion Arts x Multaka Oxford, the carpet fragments will be used as a 'meeting point' to explore themes such as movement, migration, hospitality, art, storytelling, heritage, community and place making. A historic traveling object becomes a way for us to explore our threads of belonging; the places and stories we build and carry with us into the present and future.

Artwork produced from this workshop, plus photo documentation will be on display at the Window Galleries over the summer.
