The Ciaran Walsh Liberation Library is set up to commemorate the life of Ciaran Walsh, as a passing gift to the community, to share knowledge inform and inspire, debate and social justice.
Ciaran Walsh was a phenomenal local historian, orator, poet, spoken word artist; chair of the East Oxford Community Association and Ruskin College alumni, who died last May at the age of 57. He was a committed proponent of 'History from Below' and was well known for his radical history walking tours of Oxford, featuring fiery expositions of 800 years of social struggle in the town.
Over the course of his life, Ciaran amassed an extensive library covering history, philosophy, political theory and much else besides. Now his wife Tracy and kids Seamus and Fergus have kindly agreed to open this library up to the public, as a resource for political education and social justice. Friends, family and comrades of Ciaran raised the funds to commission local woodworker Emma Gordon to create the shelving and The Island/ Fusion Arts have generously given the space to house the library•
Come and browse, read, chat, borrow at your leisure - and please be in touch if you would like to volunteer a couple of hours here and there to staff the library!
