Spilt Milk 2023 EXHIBITION OPENING EVENT

Spilt Milk 2023 is an exhibition of work made by queer artists of marginalised genders. The opening event will include live music, a live performance, and drinks.

Come along to the opening of Spilt Milk 2023!

4th February 6-10pm

This event will include live music, a live performance, and drinks (all free). Tickets must be booked in advance, and please arrive early as we will stop admitting people once the venue has reached full capacity.

Spilt Milk 2023 is an exhibition of work made by queer artists of marginalised genders. Every artwork that was submitted in response to an open call has been included here, whether installed physically or presented in a Spilt Milk zine that is available for free at the exhibition.

The show is a retaliation against the lack of representation for queer artists of marginalised genders in the art world. Spilt Milk provides a platform for these artists, enabling their work to get the consideration and recognition it deserves, with no requirement for it to be about their gender or sexual orientation.

The artworks in this queer feminist exhibition expand outwards from a washing line structure. It’s a washing line that has been added to, reworked, extended, rusted, damaged, destroyed. Metallic and cold, it sits in conversation with the raw, industrial features of 95 Gloucester Green. Its laundry is re-purposed, to divide and organise space.

Spilt Milk’s exhibition opening will include a live performance by Meg Erridge and a program of live music. In the name of bringing balance and celebrating diversity, it offers an alternative to queer spaces that are dominated by cis gay men. It will be a comfortable and welcoming place for all of the LGBTQIA+ community of Oxford, and its allies, to come together and spread queer joy.
