‘It’s the first time we’ve done actual real things from the world.’ (Child)

Embark on a journey with children as they take action for a better future, showcasing their role as global citizens. Seven schools, representing diverse environments, unite in this project to share the spaces they call home, along with their concerns, hopes, and actions for a brighter tomorrow.

As researchers, they delved into the realm of transformative Education for Sustainable Development within the classroom. The focus was on centering and nurturing children's knowledge, empathy, and a sense of global citizenship.

‘The idea is we are global, united. I think that’s important. Reflecting on the lesson and connecting with the idea of empathy.’ (Teacher)

In this project, researchers delve into the transformative potential of Education for Sustainable Development in the classroom, focusing on nurturing children's knowledge, empathy, and a sense of global citizenship. Through captivating artwork, the children share their reflections on their environments, envision ideal spaces, express concerns about intergenerational and planetary injustice, and imagine future technologies and lifestyles.

Each displayed piece serves as a testament to the children's and teachers' reflective creativity, highlighting the power of arts-supported intercultural dialogue. Join us in sparking understanding, inspiring change, and fostering hope for a more just and sustainable future.

The artwork displayed here was created by primary-school aged children from the Maldives and Oxfordshire as part of the ‘Our World, Our Futures project’, a collaboration between Oxford Brookes University and The Maldives National University.

The exhibition will grace the #WindowGalleries along Friars Entry in Oxford, OX1 2BZ from November 13th to early December. It's completely FREE and open for you to visit at any time!

🤍The #WindowGalleries are a unique collaboration between Fusion Arts and The Randolph Hotel by @graduatehotels Graduate Hotels, designed to connect and support Oxford’s vibrant communities by providing a dynamic space for the public to experience inspiring work by local artists.
