A display in the Window Galleries for International Day of Forests (21st March)
‘One With the Earth – One With Each Other’ is a plea for solidarity with global Indigenous land-defenders. It cries loudly: ‘We are one with the Earth - We are one with each other. What we do to the Earth, we do to each other.’
CUT is an emergent UK solidarity campaign which aims to stop greenwashing and import of this ‘dirty’ timber to Britain from Sarawak, in Malaysian Borneo.
In January this year, Celine Lim and Komeok Joe - members of rainforest communities in Borneo - came to the UK with a message to the government: Stop destructive land grabbing and deforestation by timber companies. Celine Lim and Komeok Joe performed a Sarawak-longhouse ‘ash blessing’ on participants, beneath Cecilia Vicuna's ghostly Brain Forest Quipu installation at the Tate Modern, before leading a funeral procession through London. Photos by Kelly Hill and the ‘bone branch nest’ along with other props from the action are on display in the Window Galleries. Funeral procession devised by artist & activist Gaby Solly
CUT Campaign is working in partnership with Indigenous activists in Sarawak, led by SAVE Rivers Network and Keruan - Voices of the Penans, and supported by Friends of the Earth in the UK and Malaysia, Bruno Manser Fonds in Switzerland, and The Borneo Project in the USA
