Featuring artwork from: Nicole Munhawa, Usha Kar, Oxford Brookes Art Foundation Students, Iraqi Women's Art and War, Multaka Oxford, as well as ephemera from the Mandala archive.
The event started with food and drinks at lunch time, to socialise and enjoy the art on display which was all created by the women connected to mandala. Leading to the performances of Incarcerating Eve by Yasmin Sidhwa and Trojan Women by Karim Alrawi. Trojan Women superimposes the story of Troy on Gazan women.
The performances by Yasmin and Karim were both beautiful and poignant, expressing the feelings of love, fear and control. I interpreted these performances as mirrors to our current society and in this exhibition in particular it magnifies the injustices in human rights and how within the pyramid of hierarchy no matter race it is the women who suffer the most.
