”There is No Door, Yet There are Many Windows!”
Meet Georgia Arben-Crowther @giowgiart BFA graduate from the @ruskin_school_art_oxford and a trainee Art Psychotherapist at @goldsmithsuol honoured with the Corinne Buron Scholarship.
Georgia’s art practice spans sculpture, participatory art, collage, and poetry, offering adaptive healing in care homes, hospitals, charities, and schools. Her use of clay explores loss and psychodynamic theory, while her work with people with dementia navigates memory, childhood, and identity in end-of-life settings.
Inspired by a resident’s poignant words, “There is no door, yet there are many windows,” Georgia encapsulates the essence of dementia, where windows provide glints of nostalgia and empowerment. With 944,000 people in the UK living with dementia, this exhibition bridges the gap, showcasing lucidity, creativity, and fulfillment in the care home environment.
Personalized windows by Vale House residents form an installation representing a collective home, breaking barriers and advocating for holistic dementia care. “There is No Door Yet There are Many Windows” symbolizes hope amid dementia’s complexities, inspired by Foucault’s idea of care homes as ‘heterotopias.’
Georgia’s adaptive project aims to heal mental, physical, and existential pains, envisioning cohesive, creative healthcare settings.
