On Saturday 8th of July 2023, Fusion Arts hosted a remarkable fundraising event organised by Make it Mandatory. The event provided a unique opportunity for attendees to meet inspiring local changemakers and show their support for an important campaign. It was an evening filled with creativity, community, and a shared commitment to making a positive difference.
The Make it Mandatory fundraising event was a resounding success, bringing together passionate individuals who are dedicated to improving their communities. Attendees had the chance to enjoy Sip & Paint activity, where they could express their creativity while supporting a worthy cause. The atmosphere was vibrant and engaging as participants painted and mingled with like-minded individuals.
Make it Mandatory is an award-winning, Oxford-based, survivor-led, grassroots campaign. With an impressive following of over 94,000 signatures, the campaign advocates for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) to be included at KS5. Currently, 16-19-year-olds are not included in compulsory RSE, despite their expressed desire for it. This exclusion is particularly concerning considering that this age group is statistically vulnerable to domestic abuse (ONS, 2020).
The entire Make it Mandatory campaign is run by dedicated volunteers who are full-time students. Their tireless efforts and commitment to creating positive change are commendable. By hosting events like the Sip & Paint fundraiser, Make it Mandatory raises awareness about their cause and gathers support from the community.
It is essential to recognise and appreciate the work of Make it Mandatory. Their campaigns and initiatives address critical gaps in education and support vulnerable groups who often face neglect. By advocating for comprehensive RSE, Make it Mandatory is striving to empower young people and foster healthier relationships.
If you missed the Make it Mandatory Sip & Paint event, make sure to check out their campaign and consider supporting their incredible work. Together, we can contribute to a more inclusive and informed society, where the well-being and safety of all young people are prioritised.
