An evening to mark the release of all-new music by musician Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani (previously known as Despicable Zee).
This one-time evening event celebrates the release of a new EP, 'For You', and video single, 'Waiting', by oxford-based musician-producer Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani. Join us at 95 Gloucester Green on Wednesday 20th July from 7-9pm to watch, listen, and celebrate some incredible musical creation.
More direct and spare than her work as Despicable Zee, the four tracks comprising 'For You' shimmer with emotional eloquence and human warmth, despite challenging origins. “I have written these songs as a way of releasing surface level energy in moments of despair during family court proceedings,” she says. “Being a survivor of domestic abuse and supporting my son through all the changes that were to come, I have a very close bond with him through trauma but also in a form of co-regulation, and this EP is for him.”
The new single, 'Waiting', is an intimate, hypnotic track addressing the possibility of love after the trauma of abuse. Minimalist yet sensual, soothing but ambivalent, 'Waiting' hinges around the steady beat of a steel pan drum, a guarded bass buzz and a looping, three-note hum so hushed it's almost as if Zahra daren't waken a sleeping child.
