Launching Meanwhile in Oxfordshire

03/03/2021

We are excited to be part of Makespace Oxford’s new project Meanwhile in Oxfordshire!

Alongside others, we will be teaming up with Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire’s district councils, artists, individuals and six other local organisations to animate and activate 50 underused spaces across the county, making our high streets, towns and city more vibrant, exciting and inspiring places to live and work.

The £1.7m initiative is the first of its kind in the UK and is supported by the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP). In addition to revitalising 50 dormant buildings, the initiative will also create or safeguard 300 jobs, create 35 traineeships, provide construction jobs to local businesses and support those who occupy and revitalise each space. This will help support our local communities in bouncing forward from COVID-19.

We are beyond delighted to be bringing our arts, culture, community and social justice-driven focus to this project as well as to help create new opportunities for artists & communities and make good use of these dormant spaces. Not only will this add vibrancy to our amazing city, but it will also support the incredibly important arts, culture and creative industries that contribute over £1.4bn to the local economy annually. This scheme will help kickstart recovery at this difficult time and contribute towards building more connected, resilient local communities, stronger local economies and more secure futures.

Fusion Arts is looking forward to beginning explorations into how we can reclaim these spaces in a way that brings people together, celebrates diversity and allows us to make, share and experience arts & culture collectively, all the while supporting amazing local creatives and collaboratively building a better, more climate conscious future.
